Studio Policy

Objectives

  • To listen to and analyze the student’s musical progress and provide the proper support.
  • To teach and establish a strong foundation in music theory.
  • To inspire an appreciation for various styles of music.
  • To establish standards of respect and appropriate behavior in the studio and performance settings.

The summer semester includes 6 private lessons. Spring semester students must sign-up for the summer in order to reserve a spot in the following fall semester. Taking summer lessons helps the students keep their progress. Students get to choose from 6 of the 9 weeks I teach in the summer.

Tuition is due by the 5th of each month. Late payments will incur a $15 fee. Valid forms of payment include: cash, check, or Venmo. (@emvocalstudio) Checks should be made out to “Emily Smith”. You can also choose to pay in full at the beginning of the semester.

There is an annual registration fee of $60 to cover sheet music, practice binders, recitals, etc. The registration fee will be due every fall semester, and covers fall, spring, and summer.

Attendance

Students are expected to be on time to their lessons: not early and not late. Arriving early disrupts my schedule, and there is no waiting area inside. If you arrive early, please wait in the car until the lesson time. Please do not come to the door even if it’s a few minutes early. No time will be given to accommodate late arrivals; the lesson will end at the scheduled time.

Since tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance, I cannot give refunds or credits. Students are free to cancel lessons. However, students will receive only one makeup lesson. This makeup lesson can be scheduled on a makeup day as indicated on the semester calendar. Students/parents are responsible for contacting me to reschedule a missed lesson. Excessive absences due to illness or family emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Performance Classes are included in tuition, so students are strongly encouraged to attend. Performance classes will be held at the Centerville studio at 10:00 AM on days indicated on the semester calendar.

Performances

There will be a studio recital twice a year (spring and fall). Students will be encouraged to perform at the recitals. Performing at the recitals allows the student to showcase their hard work and talent for loved ones and is good practice for performing outside of the studio.

Termination of Study

If a student wishes to stop taking lessons at any point (temporarily or permanently) I will issue a refund for the remainder of paid lessons.
